A few useful
answers.

Before you start

Can a smaller file look different?

Compression can trade file size for detail or resolution. Review the result before using it, especially when small details matter. A percentage reduction describes bytes, not a measured percentage of visual-quality loss.

Which formats can I use?

Squooshy handles supported photos and images, videos, and PDFs. Compatibility also depends on the file’s contents and the encoders available on your device.

Are files compressed on my device?

Supported media is compressed on your device using native image, video, and PDF engines. The compression engine does not upload media to a Squooshy compression server. The app still uses online services for allowances, purchases, ads, configuration, analytics, and diagnostics. Free compression may need a connection to confirm your allowance.

Can every file reach my target size?

No. Targets are best effort. Some files are already compact, and some cannot get smaller enough without an unacceptable change. Check actual output size and content before sharing.

Can Squooshy compress Word documents?

No. The supported families are images, videos, and PDFs. Word documents, audio files, and ZIP archives are not supported compression workflows.
